Most of the time car batteries fail when the temperature outside are getting lower or are fluctuating more during the day.

The reason for this is colder temperature affect the chemical reaction inside the battery that produce the charge to the terminals.
The battery become less effecient.

If your battery is more than 3 years old you can listen for the signs.

When you start in the morning if it sound more slugish than usual you might want to do the following checks:

Make sure the connection are tight

Make sure that the cable are in good condition

Unsure that the terminals are clean no sulphation

Check it's voltage more than 12.5 Volt

Check that the liquid is 5 mm above the plate for refillable batteries

Check battery external protection

To prevent this to happen you can first test it with a battery load tester to know how healthy it is.

Following this you can charge it with an external battery charger to make sure it's topped up.

Also you can check that your alternator is charging properly, for this use a voltmeter connected to the battery terminal when the engine is running you should get more than 14 Volts if not you might have a problem with your alternator.

Further to this if you want to give more life to your battery you might want to add some battery conditioner to extend it's life.
Amps are used for Instantaneous current flow for a compressor fridge this could be 6 amps
when working hard, reducing to 2 amps when the contents have cooled down, then
zero when the thermostat cuts out.

Average current - amps - for a fridge you need to average out over 24 hours,
because the instantaneous current consumption varies with operations.

Total Current Consumption - Amp hours – mean you multiply amps by hours, so if
your fridge uses 2 amps average, then over 24 hours it will use 48 amp hours.

different loads - e.g. if your Tent light uses 1 amp and you use it for 4 hours
a night i.e. 4 amp hours per day, then your total draw from the battery per day
will be 48 + 4 amp hours.

All batteries will fail at some point, when they have been in use for longer periods of time. But premature battery failure is one of the main frustrations people face.

Common thinking is that turning devices off extends battery life, but what happens is the opposite. Devices consume more power when they are starting up, so turning them off is not such a good idea if they are going to be switched on frequently.

Cars and Other Automobiles

It is important to protect the car battery from high under the hood temperatures with the use of a case or a heat shield. The battery life can be extended by keeping the battery charged at all times. Electrolyte levels will have to be checked frequently during the hot months.

A recent study revealed that relocating the battery outside the engine compartment has increased its life by almost eight months. Car manufacturers are relocating the starting battery to the passenger compartment or the trunk to avoid under the hood temperatures. It also helps to use wet batteries vented to the outside or cells that do not produce gas when recharged. Based on the driving of each individual, some batteries are undercharged and this leads to sulfation, where lead sulfate gets accumulated, reducing the battery capacity. An external battery can be used for charging.

For any battery, the most important factor to consider is the temperature. Ensuring they are not exposed to too much heat can extend the life of a battery. It is common sense that high temperatures lead to faster chemical reactions. They need to be watered more often with only deionized or demineralized water. However, rain water is a good substitute in an emergency. In addition to the temperature, a reduction in the number of discharge/charge cycles significantly improves battery service life. In extremely cold climates, the car battery needs to be continuously kept fully charged when not in use.

Your car need some maintenance to be performed to stay in good condition, but if not performed that could cost you a lot of money in the long run.
Also some simple tasks can be performed by yourself but not everything.

The most important part to consider in your car is :

The timing belt. Not every car has a timing belt, some have a timing chain which does not need to be changed.

A timing belt on the other hand is basically a rubber belt which controls the timing and motion of your entire engine. It is little wonder then that this eventually wears out and must be replaced.
The bad news is that it’s a long, tedious task due the number of parts which rely on the timing belt. In most cases, the side of the engine must be almost completely pulled apart to replace the timing belt.
Each car will have a different timing belt maintenance schedule; however the average is to change it at around every 100,000 km or less. It is very important that you adhere to this routine as a snapped timing belt can spell the end of your engine.
It is not recommended to change your timing belt yourself; however this car maintenance tip is vital so I felt I should mention it here.

Obviously one of the biggest car maintenance tips involves changing the engine oil. This should be done every 5000 km.

Changing the oil stops the engine from getting sludgy. When this happens the parts will not fluidly work together, which can cause a whole stack of problems. Oil changes can be done yourself and generally cost no more than $20 for the oil. You will want to change the oil filter every second oil change as well. These can be bought for around $15 or less, depending on your type of car.

Tires are another important car maintenance tip. Your tires should be regularly inspected for wear and punctures. Tires should be replaced every 2-3 years, depending on tire type and what sort of surfaces you drive on.

These are just a few car maintenance tips which hopefully will help you to keep your car in safe and perfect condition!
